John’s a very experienced/expert tutor with 9+ years experience in SAT/ACT, college essays/coaching, and high school coursework. He graduated from Harvard with a degree in neurobiology and English, which enables him to tutor a variety of subjects.
John believes that the most important attribute for a tutor to possess, beyond complete knowledge of the material, is adaptability. Every student is different, and so John strives to adapt to the needs of each individual student.
Additionally, John played college soccer, so he feels that he can relate well to the grind of the student-athlete experience. When he’s not tutoring, John spends his time writing, performing comedy around LA, and watching/playing soccer. He’s grateful for the opportunity to work with students and continue in education, a field that means so much to him.
I hold two master’s degrees — one in applied mathematics, one in physics. I started teaching math in 1999. While many of the intervening years saw me as a part-time adjunct instructor of mathematics, I did enjoy a full-time appointment to the math faculty of Alabama A&M University for 5 of those years. I have also used my skills in industry and government, most notably at NASA and Intergraph.
I’ve taught just about every undergraduate math course and tutored some graduate ones, too. I started out teaching introductory statistics and probability for several semesters at Oakwood College (now Oakwood University). I have also taught at UAH, Strayer, and Calhoun. I am familiar with the undergrad curriculum. I’ve tutored students from schools all over the world — high school and college.
I have tutored students from pre-algebra to differential equations (and in an assortment of “off-road” courses like business calculus, statistics, discrete math, finance, graduate psychology statistics, etc.). Some students have followed me through their entire undergraduate career: trigonometry, calculus 1-2-3, differential equations, and linear algebra. High school students, too, have stayed with me from pre-algebra through two algebras and geometry into pre-calculus or even calculus. I foster loyalty by making the student a priority.
I also have a depth and breadth of experience that helps me help you figure many of the WHY’s of the math you are tasked to learn, and I know the really salient points that you need to hang onto as you progress.

I have over twenty-nine years of classroom experience. I taught in the Fulton County Public School System, Trinity Preschool, The Cliff Valley School, The Young Childrens’ School, and currently teach at The Cathedral School. I am extremely committed to advocating for exceptional education at all levels for all children.
My tutoring strengths lie with children PreK through third grade. This time in a child’s life should be filled with a love of learning, as well as the confidence to explore their abilities and build their skills. The right approach will give a child confidence in themselves and their abilities. I can help your child find the tools they need to succeed in school. When I’m not teaching, I enjoy reading, cooking, practicing yoga, dancing, going to the beach, and spending time with my family and friends.
